What's your winter base weight? I'm not talking about snowshoes, but I am talking about winter weather: GTX hiking boots 9of course not included in base weight), ice traction, 20°F bag and liner, winter layers w/thermals, and only a hex tarp w/Tyvek 1443r groundcloth. We're clearly talking about day in/day out living in snow & rain, sleeping in shelters.

Please leave food, h2o, fuel (all consumables) and any skin weight out of the number.

Without my group WFR 1st Aid Kit (I work p/t as a backcountry guide), my winter base is...

28lbs.

What's yours? Hope everybody out there is having a great day!

20 degree bag is Summer weight, not Winter. Winter baseweight would include snowshoes and crampons, maybe even an ice axe, depending. 40 pound packweight is reasonable in Winter. Stove and fuel is heavier for Winter, more insulating layers and spare base layers. I use Salomon Toundras and they are really light, for Winter hiking boots. I wouldn't use a Summer weight tarp for Winter, either. I kinda want to live without frostbite.

I'm good to 0°F with my 20°F Rab Summit down & liner!!!

I guess this is a winter bag.

My comparable items I'm using right now my total weight with food and water is 31 lbs. My base weight would be roughly 12lbs.
