Having many issues from a 15 year hiatus , I'm now jumping back into the Backpacking world on an easy entry . My biggest issues are my feet . I have neuropathy . I need advice on a long weekend (3day) sectional hike in Va. . I will need optional jumping off spots in case I just can't cut it . Can anyone suggest something here ? This will be basically a shake down hike to decide if I will be able to section hike my way from Springer to Kataddin .

Thx
Gonzo

You could hike many sections along the Skyline Drive and have plenty of early-outs should you need to bail. The Appalachian Trail roughly parallels the road, and there are lots of side trails. Also, there is enough traffic to thumb a ride.

I also recommend Shenandoah Nat'l Park for your hike. Try the Central district which sits atop the ridgeline and offers places to resupply, which will reduce your pack load. Although you didn't mention when I would wait till after first weekend of April to assure the waysides in the park are open.

Good Luck .
