I am in Georgia, not more than a few hours away from Amicalola. I am training to start the GA section in late May starting at Deep Gap SOBO. I have been doing the Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield National Park. Is anyone here familiar at all? Is it any comparison at all to the AT? The loop of the entire trail system is 16.6 miles and I did that last Saturday with a 22 pound pack, but well over half the trail system there is pretty level, and the other half is hard mountain climbs. Does anyone have any input for a good training ground for me that is really close to "home" (Canton, GA)?
:-?

It is an hour from Canton to Amicalola Falls. Drive up one Saturday and do the Approach Trail and Hike Inn loop, which will give you a much better training experience than at Kennesaw Mountain. Worth the drive if you really want to get some training in, plus you get to see the falls.

I will do that. Thanks! Glad to know it isn't that far. I thought it was much farther away.
