So, what are all ya'll's suggestions on what food to pack. That's probably what I'm the least clued in to. I'm going to be on an incredibly tight budget and want to know how to stay healthy AND save money, if at all possible.

Thanks for everything,
Nic

If you are paying the postage, then buying locally as you go is probably cheaper than doing mail drops. Not only do you have the cost of shipping, but also your food tastes change as people hike along. Much of what you think is appetizing now will probably get dumped in the hiker swap boxes later on, and you go to the local store anyway.

That being said, grocery stores are cheaper than freeze dried. And you will want variety. Look for food that give you at least 100 calories per ounce.

Ramen noodles are cheap, but many think it's just empty calories high in sodium. Mac and cheese is a good standby for thru-hikers because it's usually inexpensive, and good calorie ration.

hit hiker boxes first, and then get what ever else you need from the grocery store. postage is expensive.
