I am looking for some info about a section hike. I would like to leave my car near Wilbur Dam road, shuttle back to Damascus and hike south back to my car. IS that area safe to leave my car? Is there a better place? Any words of wisdom?:)

Thanks!

Reported to be safe. I was there a couple years ago (not hiking, darn it), and there were several cars parked there. It's pretty far from anything, but still on a good paved road.

Parking is cramped at the trailhead. But generally safe. More at the boatramp and visitor center.

There has been some light vandalism TN 91, 421, and McQueens Gap recently.

Thanks for the info! Is SOBO the best way to go? I have already completed Damascus north to Greyson Highlands.

Indeed. It would be logistically easier to get a shuttle to Wilbur Dam road from Damascus then the other way around. Effort wise, no real difference which way you go. The climb out of Wilbur dam road is a bit of a grunt, but once on the ridge you roll right along.

Planning wise, that is a very popular section just before and after Trail days weekend. Lots of people hiking in and out for the festivities.
