Thanks!!!!!!! I sure wish I had that where's-the-beer list when I did my AT.... I was clueless and kept resorting to that Yuengling swill (no offense to YL lovers, if indeed there are any).

On a hot August day in a drought year, Yuengling tastes just fine. ;)

What good posts! One quick addition: Outdoor '76, the fine Outfitter in downtown Franklin NC, has a small tap room in the rear of the store that serves some wonderful local beers.

Yuengling - America's oldest brewery and a great PA product. (Iron City is no longer brewed in Pittsburgh and Rolling Rock is now brewed in NJ!). You gotta drink the local brew, it's not my fault Iron City left Pittsburgh. You don't know swill until you've drunk Dixie.

Loved me some Yuengling on a hot day! A cut above the standard domestic offerings, I was sorry when the trail ran dry.

As far as Rutland VT goes I would head to the Vermont Tap House any day before Hop N' Moose. Amazing brick oven pizza & sandwiches and more beers on tap than I've seen anywhere in the area. I've found Hop N' Moose to be kind of an odd clash between sports bar, brew pub and pizza joint. Also when they opened the reviews were nearly unanimous that the food sucked but there they still are so maybe it changed..

Look for an article soon in BeerAdvocate Magazine about beer on the A.T. :)
Matt, interesting. I found Hop'n Moose to be outstanding in its food quality! They use locally raised cows who feed on only grass. I didn't visit Vermont Tap House. Sounds like a place I'd enjoy for sure!
