Went to the art store and bought some 9x12 tracing paper tablets. 50 sheets for $3.07. I bought a couple because I knew it would take some time to get the right technique. I looked for onion skin paper but it was more costly and had to be delivered. Here are my results.
Use an inkjet
Trim the paper to standard size using a photo cutting board.
Found it's better to only feed a couple sheets at a time. Most printers are not made to pickup such thin paper. Likewise, batch your print job into 10 pages ata time to avoid jam ups and overall frustration.
use fast draft printing (lightest ink), because if you use more ink the paper will sag and the ink will smear.
After printing, I trimmed the 8.5x11 tracing paper down to book size pages.
End result: AT database pdf -:(no longer online. (combo of thru-hikers handbook/at databook) on 44 sheets of tracing paper trimmed down for a Total weight of 3oz.
50 sheets of tracing paper trimmed down to 8.5x11=4.8ozs
Merry xmas
p.s.-add a piece of yellow paper to provide a contrast backing since the pages are transparent.
