Looking for suggestions for a day hike or maybe overnight near Fontana. Working at Fontana and would like to get first experience on the AT. Maybe 1/2 day in and out or 1-1/2 days loop.

First hike out, I'd likely go from the damn to ShuckStack Firetower and back. Not positive, but I think there's a loop trail that comes back by the lake, if you don't want to repeat the stretch of the AT.

I was looking at Shuckstack. Elevation looks tough but I can do it if I have enough time. A loop would be nice but I will be solo so good map would be needed.
Thanks

I've done the dam to the fire tower before with small kids, up and back easily in a day. It was indeed rigorous but we did it. That was 6-8 years ago and we climbed up the tower also. Scary as *****! It was rickety then, probable can't climb to the top now.

a decent overnighter------take lakeshore out to lost cove..........stay at 91.............go up the next day to AT and tower and then back down.......

or you could take the boat shuttle over and go to hazel creek......
