So I'm thinking back on past threads about not camping near trail heads or leaving vehicles here and there due to vandalism and such. How safe is parking at Unicoi Gap for about 5 days? If I remember correctly, it's a pretty big area with lots of foot and vehicle traffic. Anyone had any issues lately?

Left a car there for 2 nights in 2013 with lots of gear visable in the back, no issue, no problems

Thank you, that's what I was looking for (a little reassurance).

never parked there but there is a lot of traffic. If possible can you park at Dick's Creek Gap?

I was thinking of parking at Amicalola Falls State Park and doing a "round trip" hike from there to Neel's Gap and back. Can you leave your vehicle parked there for that length of time?...(approximately 8 days) I do have a State Park Annual Pass.

And, was told so by head ranger at FDR.

Yes, you may park at Amicalola as long as you wish in the long term lot across from the visitors center.
