I posted a comment back in the fall - probably poor timing - on offering up a place to crash in NYC if you are wanting to visit the city on your hike. I live in Queens, about 5 subway stops from Midtown so the location is pretty good and I have an extra bedroom. If you are wanting to crash in the city please send me a PM and we can work out the details. Not looking for money or anything, just a good story and maybe a beer!
Easiest way to get to NYC from the trail is to take the Metro North train from the North side of Bear Mountain State Park (Manitou station). honestly calling it a station is a stretch, it is a bench on the railroad track where the trains stop at 1:10, 4:10 and 7:10 typically on weekdays. It is then a 1 hour train ride into the city and drops you off at Grand Central.
If you already have a place to crash and just are looking for some advice on this city, I might be able to help there as well, so just let me know.
Happy hiking all!
