Can anyone tell me where and if gas canisters are available in Hiawassee, Ga. Planning section hike in June and would rather not deal with mailing a canister to a PO.

Try the Hiawassee Budget Inn in the center of town, they maintain a small outfitter shop on the premises. Also, because of its central location and proximity to shopping, supermarkets, multiple restaurants, etc., this is a great place to stay while hiking/passing thru the area.
there is a wallmart in franklin that had them last year

Walmart in Hiawassee, too. Also, there is an outfitter there. Mountain Roots and Hiawassee Outfitters.

Top of Georgia Hostel just 1/2 mile from Hiawassee trailhead has them.

No Walmart in Hiawassee. There's one in Blairsville, about 25 minutes away.
