These are fattening with the palm oil added but that's what trail food junkies usually crave. Plus they retain their nutrition for the most part. They have just the right amount of sea salt. Only three ingredients: broccoli florets, palm oil, sea salt. I thought I was crazy paying more than $6 for less than 2 ozs but had to try them as they were recommended by another hiker in the know who is always on the lookout for trail food possabilities being unafraid of sampling new foods. A tiny bit go a long way when adding to trail meals. About 157 cals/oz.

Mix with the Knorrs pasta sides. I took 1.5 packages of Knorrs Parmesan Pesto Penne(about 7 oz total, about $1.50), added 1/2 oz of the broccoli florets, and a 3.75 oz tin of Sardines($2) in olive oil for two people on a 3 day hike. We loved it. Dry food wt per person was just under 6 oz each. Cost about $3/ person. Adding some julienned dried tomatoes next time. Just under about 600 cals per person.

I get the need for palm oil in a long-distance hikers diet, but do you have any idea what palm oil has done to the planet?

Not to mention the animal and plant species that have been lost to deforestation.

Palm oil must die. Or be banned. Read every label. Write to your food manufacturers and your solons.

Wow, the responses.

Can we discuss cattle farts contribution to global warming now? Reducing Human Population? What's the perfect way to eat or do a hike?...... on a dried broccoli thread?

How about starting an anti Trader Joe's Dried Broccoli because it contains palm oil campaign by stapling flyers to telephone poles?

LNT doesnt just apply to litter and dog poop.

Deforestation is certainly leaving a trace - and the manufacture of palm oil is a direct result of deforestation.

LNT, indeed.

But do forgive me. I must have been mistaken in thinking that people who cared about LNT and cared about a trail, its land and its sky (trees), would care about the planet.
