Would like to get some input on which Sunscreen with deet is good to use.
I was just going to get Deet but I am very light skin and burn easy.

Do you have to have them both in one product? I prefer to carry them separately for the simple reason that I often need sunscreen, but rarely need DEET, and I prefer to use potentially nasty chemicals as little as possible.

(If you're trying to prevent ticks, my personal experience is that permethrin treatment on one's clothing works better than DEET.)

Everybody should now know that using DEET insect repellent with sunscreen decreases the effectiveness of the sunblock by about 30-40%. Thus, if using both at the same time, be prepared to re-apply sunscreen more often than if using sunscreen alone.

I wonder how it goes with picaridin instead of deet?

Also, for anyone combining bug dope and sun screen, remember to put the bug dope on top the the sun screen because sun screen works with bug dope on top of it much better than bug dope works with sun screen on top.

Bullfrog (http://www.bullfrogsunscreen.com/products/mosquito-coast/index.html) is one that I know of. I've never used it.

You can wear protective clothing as needed and not slather your body with greasy chemicals that get on gear and cause issues. Just a thought.

Just a thought.Unless it's real hot out and pants and long sleeves are out of the question. But a I do always carry a wide-brimmed hat even when in shorts and a sleeveless shirt. Also, a light head net for the worst of bug season. I've had mosquitoes bite through denim jeans as well.

I carry a small tube of sunscreen on the AT and a real small canister of DEET. I burn real easy too. Once the leaves are out, the time spent in the sun is low most of the time. I like the wide brimmed hat for the sun protection and also it flares out the head net when it is used.

So, for my work, I was reviewing information on DEET to combat mosquito borne illnesses, and a healthcare professional in one video stated that products with SPF and DEET are less effective than using them separately. She stated that you should put your sunscreen on first, let it penetrate for a few minutes, then apply the DEET. Sounds reasonable to me. Skin absorbs the SPF, right? And the DEET stays on the surface.

I concur... when I'm using both products that's how I tend to use them. Works for me, just to add another anecdote to the pile. ;)

Edit to add, I use Neutrogena for sunscreen and Ben's DEET. Good enuf.
