Trail Friends,
In memory of Jack and where he spent the last several weeks of his life in Franklin. Me and my wife Maricela have decided to name our hostel The Jack Tarlin Hoste (http://appalachiantrailservices.net/Havenshikerhostel.htm)l (http://appalachiantrailservices.net/Havenshikerhostel.htm) We will have the sign in the window changed soon. We will also reserve a 6 feet wide wall behind the computers where he helped so many hiker friends print off their permit for the smokies. On this wall I want to put a flat screen monitor which I will have several changing pictures of Jack. I also will have some pictures of other hiker friends we have lost also. Next year as you pass through Franklin, be sure and stop in to the Jack Tarlin Hostel for a visit..

You'll have my business when I pass thru. If you solicit YouTube videos of Baltimore Jack tributes, I'll put them together into a documentary for you that you can loop on the monitor. Let me know.

It's hard to get that tune out of your head once it worms into your ears. Like a river that don't know where it's flowing, he took a wrong turn and he just kept going.

You know what you call a man who discovers the Appalachian Trail midway through life and hikes it until he dies?

You call that man Baltimore Jack.

Thank you Ron for all that you and your family have sacrificed for the trail and hikers over the years. Coming from someone like you just adds to the honor it imparts to BJ.

I never had the good fortune to hike with or converse with BJ in person, but was privy to many of his good deeds, including the help he gave to the hikers during the flooding in PA back in '06. Jack waded a raging stream in order to secure a safety line for hikers when crossing the swollen stream. Also offered to arrange shuttles for those who needed to by-pass the flooding. All around, a good man to have around when the time's got tough.
