This sounds like a solo hikers worst nightmare.

When asked about fearing bears I say humans are far scarier

Scary, but sadly the description sounds like many LD hikers out there. It would be sad if people became fearful of thru-hikers because of this kind of incident.

Huh? Explain Dune Elliot. This happened as a believed isolated incident off the busy Blue Ridge Pkwy near busy Craggy Garden.

Lots of questions ...She was tied to a tree but had access to her cell phone? Was reported missing by her caregiver but could hike alone?

Huh? Explain Dune Elliot. This happened as a believed isolated incident off the busy Blue Ridge Pkwy near busy Craggy Garden.

On Saturday, they released a description of a possible suspect, describing him as a white man, about 50 years old with salt-and-pepper hair and scruffy facial hair. He was wearing a light gray T-shirt, faded, baggy blue pants and dark sneaker.

"The subject may appear and smell of a musty odor of being unwashed in several days," the parks service said.

This was to what I was referring.

That picture is of the Blue Ridge Parkway going around Pilot Ridge about mile post 303 with Grandfather Mountain in the background. Hope they catch the jerk!!!

and the police are looking for someone who looks and smells like he hasn't washed or bathed in days. That's every single thru hiker!

Seriously though this is so sad. Where do these sick people come from anyway!

64 years old, health issues, and requires a caregiver. Yet, she hikes alone? Does anyone else see this as a bit odd?

Sounds like an attention seeking granny who has sent the authorities on a wild goose chase and requires specialist care and attention. Not everyone that makes an accusation is telling the truth and 2+2 does not equal 4 on this occasion.

I knew someone would know...I didn't know, but looked so familiar from all the bike trips I did in that area.

I'm glad I'm not hiking in that area right now.
That description not only describes about 1/2 my friends, it describes me to a tee, except the smelly part of course.
My wife was suggesting I needed to trim my beard a couple of days ago. Maybe it's time to do it.

It's actually where the trail goes around Rough Ridge on the Parkway- MP 302.8, below Ship Rock.

About 60 miles from where the incident took place.
