Seems to me there was a suggestion (2013?) for a Senior Hiking forum. Did that ever get established? I can't find anything like that but I'm coming thru via Tapatalk and searching is not as fluid.

What purpose would a seniors forum fulfill? As an illustration, look at how many men post in the Women's forum...

And most of us here are pretty senior and approaching retirement age.

What purpose? I thought that was kind of obvious. If you're suggesting some sort of an overt segregation, or worse, that's _not_ what I had in mind.

I agree with ChuckT, furthermore, in my view you are not a Senior until you hit seventy. Anyone want to go hiking in the Spanish Pyrenees so I don't have to go solo this August -September? 32,000 feet of vertical in around 120 miles of the trail, maximum elevation a little over 9000 feet en-route.

I've hiked with Old Hillwalker in the Mahoosuc Notch. He's lying about his age. He's a twenty-year-old!!! ... maybe in a senior body. LOL

a good portion of your responses will be from people 50+ and 65+ anyway. and even more so if you ask a question that is more age-related
it's just walkin'. many 40 year old hikers have the body of a 70 year old, and many 70 year old's are the opposite.

I am 34, but I can recommend a good set of ultralight depends!

I have no issue with the overt segregation. My point was that, as with the women's forum, you would have a different demographic chiming in on issues that they truly can't relate but would be more than happy to interject their opinion.

I'm pretty sure that anyone age qualified to post in the senior forums will give their input wherever they want to.

or they will type a line and forget to hit post quick reply.

Well, the men check the women's forum, cause,uh, well, we're interested in the wimin!
But NOBODY'S gonna be paying attention to an old geezers forum except us old geezers!

I think it would surprise younger people that much older people can do this backpacking, as well, or better than they in so many ways.

The "geezers" may have had experience of many years hiking, backpacking, and camping and are much healthier than the general population and they are getting outdoors and doing walking and hiking and backpacking and camping outdoors that serves to optimize their health.

The lightweight and UL gear available, now, makes backpacking much more accessible for all ages, young or old.

Locally, we have The Over-the-Hill Gang that meets, and hikes, and summits the mountains in Glacier National Park.

The background color for the forum would be gray or silver, correct?

Got any coupons?

Our Shoney's early-bird specials are at 4:00, and if you pay your check by 5:00, the cashier gives you a coupon for a free bowl of soft-serve vanilla ice cream to use on your next visit. The smart ones go with friends who have diabetes or lactose issues and get their coupons, too.

The best thing about being old is that we don't hear well enough to know that we are snoring at night! Makes us more ultra light because we don't need no stinkin ear plugs!

Does anyone else find the term "senior" patronizing? I'd much prefer to be called old, ancient, even venerable. Old people are just people who have lived longer than young people, not a subspecies.

Maybe this thread should be moved to the humor forum.

When my buddy and I were backpacking the Cape Wrath Trail in Western Scotland a few years ago (09). One of the ladies running a hostel we stayed at called us Two Elderly Gentlemen.

Getting old is not humorous.

I prefer to be considered as having reached "Advanced Middle Age".
