For the past two months I've been trying to buy a pair of Men's large silkweight capilene bottoms. No luck. Hudson Trail is out of the large size. Apparently Patagonia is changing the nature of the material and there just aren't any in the stores.

You can buy it directly off the patagonia website, although you'll have to pay full price.

Silkweight is a summer product. You might not be able to find it in the winter.

Most of the worlds Capilene trees where in Southern Louisiana, and Katrina damaged most of them. In addition you are correct, Patagonia is now adding Kevlar to the Capilene and sending most of it to our troops in Iraq.

i know this is off topic, but Sierra Trading Post has some 2nds (shirts) for 3.xx something. I bought two. Who cares if they are seconds if you are using them as a base layer.

I was just on the Patagonia dealer site, they've got white ones available in M, L, and XL, black available in L. The retail website should have them as well. I'm pretty sure we've got them in stock at the shop where I work (I'm at home right now), send me a PM if you still need them, I can probably get them to you with no charge for shipping.
Patagonia Capilene isn't changing till either next fall or spring of '07. They are going to begin using recycled material, similar to their PCR Synchilla Fleece.

Silkweight in the summer? I wear it in the winter. So do I (well, the wool equivalent). However, its not typically available at dealer locations in the winter. Sort of like trying to find a LS expedition weight shirt in the summer.

I wear summer weight ('silkweight' doesn't seem to be used much in the "wool" industry) wool year round. Thinner is better in winter becuase it dries faster (use a windshirt, hat, gloves, vest, etc. to "keep warm") and its not as warm in the summer.

I do wish I had spent the extra $5-$10 and bought zip versions of my shirts.

Trust me there is no shortage, except in the purchasing department at Hudson Trail. I know, I used to work there.

If you need a pair, just goto www.patagonia.com (http://www.patagonia.com) and purchase direct from them. There is also a Patagonia Store in Georgetown, I forget what street, but it is right on the canal and bike path.
