Good luck on your thru! I hope to be able to do this one day. Let is know if you need anything. Several forum members are near the trail.

There are several RW Reliable water sources just North of Cheaha. I will list a few below:

85.3 ~ ZULU CANYON ~ RW
87.3 ~ HILLABEE CREEK CROSSING ~ RW
87.8 ~ 88.5 ~ 6 SPRINGS / 2 CREEKS ~ SW, RW
88.5 ~ CAMPSITE ~ RW
90.8 ~ FRIENDSHIP CAMPSITE ~ LC, RW
91.5 ~ CR 24 CROSSING ~ RW

Complete list@
http://www.pinhotitrailalliance.org/trail-water-sources..html

SW Seasonal Water
Springs are dependent on very regular rain cycles.
High elevation springs ~ Will usually flow 1 or 2 days after rain.
Low elevation springs ~ Will usually flow maybe a week or more after rain.

RW Reliable Water
Creeks are dependent on semi regular rain cycles.
Will usually flow continually, except maybe extreme drought conditions during hot months.

Rivers will always have water
Lakes will always have water
I've read that because of the quanity and quality and also the multitude of different sources that form rivers and lakes, filtering doesn't work as well as it does with smaller bodies of water and the possibility of ingesting bacteria and pollutants is greater. I've done it and you probably have too. Just saying...

Planning Strategy
So let me just say that anytime you use seasonal springs in your planning strategy, you are
taking a risk. If your house is sitting right on the trail, then you know when it rained on this
spot the last time, but if your house isn't on...

Reliable creeks are the way to go. So maybe you will need to carry 2 litres or more, sometimes or maybe regularly. Water is only 2 lbs. per litre, so Just leave the ax and BBQ grill at home. You'll be fine :)

Use the list below to determine the distances between reliable water sources on the sections you plan to hike. Then figure in things like how far you can go on a litre of water. how many meals before the next water source, and weather you will set up camp before the next source.

The road walk is pretty easy. I made it about 28 miles from Flagg Mountain to 4-5 miles short of Bull Gap on day 1. I'd do it, but I am a stupid purist.

I have a video series showing a virtual hike of the Pinhoti if you are interested. It is all about the trail. What you will see and where. I virtually am never in it. It has approximate mile markers too.

The series can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3WnuBa_OqQ&feature=gp-n-y&google_comment_id=z12kfz2rannacbndb22iw51ptuijgrah m04

I am almost to the AL-GA line. I've done Flagg to Maxwell Gap, but november I will be well into GA and close to finishing up I hope.

Matt.. let me first start off by saying thank you for the list of water sources from the pinhoti alliance website. i was going to compile a list myself to keep along with the map book ive made. but since you have already done it for me... Thank you!AO2134..I have done the Flagg mountain section twice now. but nothing is appealing about road walking and seeing cars pass by. once they get another section of trail build between Flagg and Bulls gap. i will do it. for the limited number of days i have i dont want to waste them on pavement stomping. What about food re-supply points? anyone have any suggestions. i was reading that i could possibly leave food at the country store at Cheaha, but the post was from 5 years ago. so i dont know if thats reliable or not. any stores not far from the trail north of cheaha?
