Hey guys,

I've been listening to this song recently that just really gets inside me and I thought I'd share it with anyone who may be interested. Makes me long for the trail... For me in conjures up images of having 2000 miles still ahead.

You can download it (legally, of course ;) or just follow this link to hear it. It's a recording my friend made while he was warming up his voice. On my Mac, I just hit the play button (no downloading or anything) - hope you have the same luck.

So here are the words if you're interested:

A Place Called Home

Well, it's not hard to see
Anyone who looks at me
Knows I am just a rolling stone
Never landing anyplace to call my own
To call my own

Well, it seems like so long ago
But it really ain't you know
I started out a crazy kid
Miracle I made it through the things I did
The things I did

Someday I'll go where there ain't no rain or snow
‘Til then, I travel alone
And I make my bed with the stars above my head
And dream of a place called home

I had a chance to settle down
Get a job and live in town
Work in some old factory
I never liked the foreman standing over me
Over me

Oh I’d rather walk a winding road
Rather know the things I know
See the world with my own eyes
No regrets, no looking back, no goodbyes
No goodbyes

Someday I'll go where there ain't no rain or snow
‘Til then, I travel alone
And I make my bed with the stars above my head
And I dream of a place called home

I hope you guys enjoy it as well. Take care.

The MP3 worked fine for me. Tell your friend that he has done a great job.

Nice surprise; while my 'puter was shuting down it stopped to play the song! Wish I could hear the vocals as well as the guitar, I'd use it in my slideshow. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the link. Maybe I'll use this song when I get around to learning how to play the guitar.

Here's another good one that reminds me of the trail.. "Wanderin' Around" by Carbon Leaf. Studio version is great but here's a free download of a live one..

They have another great tune called "Life Less Ordinary" that you can listen to on their site. http://www.carbonleaf.com/ (click the player at the top of their homepage to song #1)

Great lyrics.. gotta dig this verse:

Live a life less ordinary
Live a life extradordinary, with me
Live a life less sedentary
Live a life revolutionary, with me

When I was in the fourth grade I learned the following song at Nature's Classroom in Swansea, NH. It always reminds me of the trail. (I think a couple of verses were added over time because I don't remember the one about the whipporwill.)

On the Loose

On the loose to climb a mountain
On the loose where I am free
On the loose to live my life
The way I think my life should be.
For I've only got a moment
And the whole world left to see
I'll be looking for tomorrow on the loose.

Have you ever watched the sunrise
Turn the sky completely red?
Have you slept beneath the moon and stars
With a pine bough for your bed?
Do you sit and talk with friends
Though a word is never said?
Then you're just like me and
You've been on the loose.

On the loose to climb a mountain...

There's a trail that I'll be hiking
Just to see where it may go
Many places yet to visit
Many people yet to know
So in following my dreams
I will live and I will grow
On a trail that's waiting
Out there on the loose.

On the loose to climb a mountain...

Have you ever heard a whippoorwill
Singing to the morning dew?
When you hear the bells ringing,
Do you know they ring for you?
And when you look back on the past, all I really ask
Is to remember me when you're out on the loose.

On the loose to climb a mountain...

So, in search of love and laughter
I'll be traveling through this land
Never sure of where I'm going
For I haven't any plans.
So in time when you are ready
Come and join me, take my hand,
And together we'll share life
Out on the loose

On the loose to climb a mountain...

As I sit and watch the sunset,
And the daylight slowly fades
I am thinking of tommorow
And the friendships we have made
I will value them for always
And I hope you'll do the same
And forever we'll explore life
On the loose.

On the loose to climb a mountain...
