Would love to see everyone's best and/or favorite picture they have ever taken on the AT. I figured through the 2,000+ miles, there's probably some good ones!

Here's mine. It was taken at Carvers Gap last November. I was so excited for my first AT trip (which failed miserably but still had a blast) at around 11 am. It was a very overcast day, it kept drizzling on & off and the trail was very muddy. I smelled my first thru-hiker (I could have passed out), carried the wrong size pack, and nearly cried when we came to John Murray shelter because we thought we had hiked 5 miles already (my friend's pedometer was way off!) Anyway, it's my favorite picture because after our ride drove off, I thought I had a made a huge mistake doing this hike. Now I can't wait to do it again! :)

From the GSMNP last March 21st, after a Nor'easter came through. Yes, I'm from FL, so this was super cool to me. Probably just a boring pic to many northern friends.

Wow, I have many. Sadly when I hiked the AT back in the early to mid 1980's I didn't have a camera, sob.

This pic was taken near Walker Gap above Fontana in 2003. Weird thing is that I was camping off to the side of the trail and this white AT mark could only be seen from my campsite as the actual trail runs in a straight line between my pack and the tree.

I have hundreds of "favorites" and I absolutely love seeing pictures above that others have posted! :)
Here's a recent one. It's from the summit of Lafayette (White Mtns) early on Saturday, July 9, 2016. Everything below us, which was a non-trivial series of peaks and valleys, was buried in a shroud of solid white, totally obliterated. Above was a layer of white. In between was this marvelous view. The sun was at just the right angle to highlight both levels. Looks like an ocean wave about to overwhelm us.

So often it seems like we gravitate towards the expansive far-off views - and they are grand, no doubt! But I like that you posted a few yards of the green tunnel. I just love those pictures that show the trail through the woods; the trail to places you can't see yet, where you wonder what's around the bend. And I enjoy the pictures of the close-up stuff: bugs, flowers, dirty feet, etc.

Here's a picture of a tiny plant community above treeline in NH where we stopped to have lunch on a rock beside the trail (we didn't trample the vegetation).

Scrolling through my gallery has been fun, and I've enjoyed the pics posted up.

This was from our hiking groups "inaugural AT hike" at the Bly Gap oak tree. I'm on the L, the next two guys are bro-in-laws, and on the R is an old classmate, close friend, and current coworker. We try to get out and hike every year if possible, last fall was on the FT in SC. The great thing about that hike was all of us got bit by the bug, "we will do this again" was uttered frequently. Although there was plenty of things that went wrong, we had an awesome time and learned plenty (like not wearing blue jeans LOL).

Love both of these - great photography!
The ladyslipper is a nice example of one of the paradoxes of nature. As harsh as life can be in the wild, as difficult as it is for creatures to find and defend enough resources to survive and reproduce -- still nature finds a way to be extravagant, to "waste" resources on a fragile beautiful ephemeral bloom.

I have a lot of trail pictures about, but my real favorites aren't from the A-T. Not surprising, really, since I do most of my hiking elsewhere.

If we're going to limit it to A-T pics, I suppose these are worth a couple of bucks, Oh deer, did I really say that?

I remembered "Many Sleeps" the first time I met him.
He was a ridge runner in the Smokies and had parked his small truck just before the climb out of Fontana.
A decal in the truck said "If you are lucky enough to be hiking, you're lucky enough."
He moved to greeting hikers on Springer after that.

This is how I do it.
Right click on a photo, copy image location. It should start with http and end with .jpg ... paste it. (links from facebook have extra code after the .jpg)
Then without spaces, put [ img ] in front of the http, and put [ /img ] after the .jpg

I've only done it once, but an excellent way to celebrate the end of a nobo thru hike is to charter a seaplane.
This one was half way between Baxter and Millinocket. I loved taking off in the water and landing in the water...smooth, smooth, smooth!!
Flew around Katahdin and followed the 100 mile wilderness back to Greenville/Monson area and back again.
It was amazing how easy and quick it was covering ground that had just taken me nearly a week. :)
