Jeff from the Hike Inn is very ill. prayers needed

"Some of you has met Jeff & Nancy Hoch at Fontana Dam at The Hike
Inn. Asking prayers for my father in law, Jeff Hoch. We received the
call today that his cancer has spread to
his brain and so much swelling. He was taken yesterday to the hospital
and is no longer has the strength to stand and became paralyzed.

Just please remember him in your prayers and let others know. They have
met hundreds hikers through the years and loved every second of it.
Please keep my mother in law in your prayers for days ahead.
Thank you"

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. We first met Jeff and Nancy in 2003, when they helped us with our first family section hike, then again in '04 and '05, and many times since. Terrific people, so helpful to newbie hikers.

The Hike Inn was responsible for my son's first shuttle ride/drop-off for his first AT section hike. Great people and great place to hang out on the porch. Our prayers are with you.

Very sorry to hear about Jeff. My prayers to Jeff and Nancy. I first met them in 1998 or 1999, not too long after they got the Fontana Inn up and running (now the Hike Inn). I've used them for shuttles and occasionally dropped on by when hiking in the area. I always enjoyed viewing Jeff's Indian relic display.

So many hikers and friends of hikers have passed away in 2016. Hope we don't have to add more to this list this year.

No offense LW, but if you read the original post it kind of indicates that. I can see you were just just sharing a message from someone else now that I look at it, but the confusion is understandable. Might want to edit the OP.

Ahh, so sad to hear. I had the good fortune to stay with Jeff and Nancy before my Smokeys section hike in October 2011. I convinced Jeff to run a food resupply up to me at Newfound Gap (for a hefty fee) so I could lighten the load on my decrepit knees. We got comfortable with one another that evening as he showed me his extensive arrowhead collection. He showed up at the Newfound Gap parking lot an hour earlier than we had agreed as he knew I'd be early to arrive, so I only had to wait 8 minutes after a quick 5-mile walk down from the Mt. Collins Shelter. We both got a kick out of that.

I hope that Nancy is doing well and able to adjust. It is so very sad to lose that sort of vitality, goodness and energy from the world.

Are they still trying to run the hike inn/shuttle now? If so I would like to support them by staying and using their service. Or is it too soon?

They are open. I called recently, made reservations (to stay and for shuttle). They never closed, but slowed down for a while.
