I have seen plenty now about water situation in CT., and its greatly appreciated. Does anyone know about water sources along AT in Massachusetts?:-?

Echoing Capt. Scott -- any info on MA water situation would be appreciated. We're doing MA/CT section starting next week, wondering how much reserve capacity (extra 64 oz Sawyer bags) to carry along just in case.

And one more - heading N from MA Rt 20 to VT border on 9/30. Interested in October Mountain, Kay Wood, Crystal Springs water. Thanks to all.

FYI to other MA hikers - Berkshires AMC advises that water sources are available at October Mountain and Kay Wood Shelters; Crystal Mountain may be iffy but Gore Pond is .5 miles north.

I just returned from 12 day SOBO hike through MA & CT. Best water in MASS. was around Upper Goose Pond and Sages Ravine. Everywhere else hit and miss. Crystal Mtn was good. Most DCS had at least clear puddles in stream bed. Many bone dry stream beds passed along trail. I hope this helps. I drink a lot of water. Weather was hot and humid. I actually bought liters of water in towns I went through. I hope this helps.

A friend and I were in Mass. from 9/14 - 9/19, going from Route 7/Great Barrington to North Adams. We got water from the following sources: Benedict Pond, a spigot on a house on Jerusalem Rd. (also bought root beers and Powerades at their roadside stand), Upper Goose Pond Cabin, October Mountain Shelter, the Cookie Lady's house on Washington Mountain Rd., Tom Levardi's in Dalton, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cheshire, and Bascom Lodge. We saw several additional streams that were running. It rained a lot on 9/18 in the Cheshire area which may have helped. We found no water at either of the Mt. Wilcox shelters.
