Anyone been up on the Boulevard in the Smokies or near IceWater Springs shelter in the last week ?

Thinking about doing a little section hiking this weekend and just wanted to know if there is a lot of snow/ice on the trail. Looks like the Smokies might be getting some this weekend......Thanks !

It has been so warm this week I would be surprised if there was any snow. I wore short sleeves today in Atlanta.

The weather report for this area is for light snow on Sat. in the lower elevations. That means the highcountry will get more.

national weather services says there's no snow on leconte or at newfound gap. that doesn't mean there's no ice, though, and almost always in january the trail up toward icewater shelter is icy. most of the time, you can step around the patches of ice

thanks, guys

With a front moving in, I was a little leary of leaving a vehicle at Newfound Gap so I'm going to start at Smokemont (much lower elevation) and hike up to the Kephart shelter. That way, I don't run the risk of them closing 441 if icy conditions develop. One of the rangers at Backcountry recommended this.......great idea !!

Thanks for y'alls input.........
