Hey y'all! www.AppalachianTrailClarity, a site for newbies, will remain updated for next year's thru-hikers! Are you starting your research like this ISFJ had to do months before embarking on my thru-hike? Start here. Because I was there too, and everything I learned in the past unbelievable year...my journey from never backpacking in my life to thru-hiking the AT and on to working on trail with new hikers as a ridgerunner this past year...it is all here for you to use to help yourself be successful, no matter what level hiker you are. We are all new at everything once. Happy trails!

Great writing!

I remember your clear gentle and oh-so-helpful video of a gear shakedown with a young man and his mother, in which you allayed so many of the mother's fears while greatly helping the over-loaded kid.

Awesome Traillium! Thanks so much. After thru-hiking and soon after becoming a ridgerunner, it was a lot of fun to help others prepare for their journey. The guy's name is Jackson, and he just finished the trail a month ago. He made it! :) :) The link to the video can be found in this article: Top 10 Mishaps to Avoid when Hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Been on your page for over an hour now and still have SO much to read! One question though, what's "liquid copper"? You reference it when talking about Hot Springs.

"No liquor is sold in Hot Springs, but there is plenty of liquid copper around to be enjoyed! "

Probably means beer. In the 80's and early 90's beer was not to be had along the NC section of trail since it passed through "dry" towns and counties. Hard liquor is still banned but due to popular demand, they eventually allowed beer to be served in restaurants in tourist towns.
