I have hiked the Standing Indian Loop.

Are there other such loop hikes on NC /TN section?

Thanks.

Since the AT has no loops, your not talking about AT hiking, but maybe using part of AT to make a loop. Which begs the question of why be AT centric at all.

You can do many loops in the gsmnp using the AT. Theres 900 miles of trails there. But most would be lollipops.

Between Allen Gap and Devil's Fork Gap (the Shelton Laurel area of Madison County NC there are some opportunities. All involve parking low and starting with a long climb). The trails illustrated map for the area lays things out well enough, plus there are easy to figure out off trail options up there too.

Thanks, Mr. Bumpy, I have been eyeing that section. I look at that trails illustrated map.

Here is a link to the Forest Service trail guide to the region. Note the trails for the Shelton Laurel area. The two main parking areas are considered safe for overnights. There are several other options - old logging roads, old homesteads, and the like that are not on the map but the area is easy to navigate with a topo. It is a good area to go to with no agenda. Check fish and game publication for hunting seasons. Wear orange and be aware, but don't be deterred.
