the AT?
If no one has any idea, you had better go start a record somebody else will have to surpass. I would suggest 5 miles per day as a minimum so at least there is some true advance each day.

Hey, I want to know too. Has anyone done a thru-hike with-out taking a zero or nero day?
The speedhikers do!
I plan on doing at least 5 miles each day the next time around!

I guess it would depend on the meaning of the word "hiking each day". Since there is no agreement on what would count as an official hiking day, there can't be a record.

I think lots of folks hike everyday. I know a lot of the speed record guys do. does it matter?
Like Fiddlehead, I too ask "what does it matter." But there is a lesson or two regarding zero days.
In 2000 I was 38, started March 7 and finished August 21. In late July I met Woodchip, a 66 y.o. woman from NH who started in early April - more than a month after me. She was hiking with a guy named badger.
Woodchip got up every morning and hiked from 6 AM til 6 PM. She took only one zero day, She was not a fast hiker, just slow and steady, and she ended up finishing the trail a couple of days ahead of me. I still recall being very impressed by her style and determination.
FYI, I took something like 25 or 26 zero days.
