Hereīs a post from a fellow searcher about how to search here:

Go to "Advanced Search", select the "search Single Content Type" tab, put "safety" in as a key word, in Search in Forums select "Female Hiker Forums", under Find Posts select "Any date" and "and newer", hit the Search Now button and you will find all kinds of threads on the subject.

That just gave me a headache. Quite frankly, the search engine on MOST forums, including White Blaze, sucks. If you donīt do it EXACTLY right you either get NO HITS, or you get every thread that was ever posted.

Hereīs a suggestion from one of the moderators who agrees that the search engine in White Blaze sucks, so it pays to go off site to get White Blaze thread links.

In your browser type in site:http://whiteblaze.net (http://whiteblaze.net/) (subject you are searching) and include the word you are searching. I tried this for site:http://whiteblaze.net (http://whiteblaze.net/) women aloneand got 3500 hits on White blaze.

Another example.....site:http://whiteblaze.net water from rainfly....and got 1720 hits on WhiteBlaze.....so, now I know more than I ever wanted to know about rain, rain flies, keeping dry, and lastly, collecting water from my rain fly......jajajajaja

I go to Google, type in whatever I'm looking for (let's say, "Superior Hiking Trail" as an example) and add the word "whiteblaze." Using the whiteblaze search function is just frustrating and seldom yields what I want.

So you might get better results if you type "site:whiteblaze.net/forum search term"...

I tried this search.....site:whiteblaze.net/forum search term bear spray (https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=site:whiteblaze.net/forum+search+term+bear+spray&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8)......and got 72 hits, some off target

next I tried map manīs method and typed in ...... bear spray, white blaze (https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=bear+spray,+white+blaze&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8) .....and got 668,000 hits, all sorts of topics.

then I tried this search with the link the moderator gave me......site:http://whiteblaze.net (http://whiteblaze.net/) bear spray.......and got 675 hits, all on bear spray, all on Whiteblaze, at least the first three pages of hits that I checked were all on target.

My conclusion.....site:http://whiteblaze.net (http://whiteblaze.net/) plus the word you are searching......is the best option.

You might try enclosing "bear spray" in quotes...

From within WhiteBlaze, go to the Settings menu seen in the upper right hand corner of your WhiteBlaze screen.
Then, select "General Settings" from the menu on the right of the screen from below the heading "My Account".
Then scroll to the very bottom the the General Settings screen to where it says "Search Type:"
AND SELECT "Google Search"

There. Now, every time to search from withing WB, you are using Google and it works just dandy.

nsherry61 thank you. I followed your suggestion and yes, it does work just dandy.....thanks for posting.
After changing my profile setting to Search On Google I typed Fontana Dam into the search block and got a separate screen showing 2890 hits all on Whiteblaze.
The separate google search screen is headed.........site:http://whiteblaze.net (http://whiteblaze.net/) Fontana Dam......wow, perfect. Thank you to nsherry61.

I too changed my Whiteblaze search settings the way nsherry61 described and it worked like a charm. Thank you for the tip!
