I can only do half the trail NOBO next year. What is a good halfway point that has easier transportation options, airport access, etc? Thanks!

I would recommend Harpers Ferry as your Halfway Point. From here you can pick up Amtrak or MARC trains to Union Station in DC and points beyond. From Union station you can take the Metro to Reagan airport . There are also shuttlers in Harpers Ferry that you may be able to arrange a ride to Dulles Airport with.

The ATC has some information here...

You could also stop at Carlisle PA in the Cumberland Valley -- a cab ride to the Harrisburg PA International Airport (1129 miles from Springer and 1060 miles from Katahdin).

Harpers ferry is the psychological halfway point of the trail. That would make most sense to me. Close enough to actual as well.

You can get to all 3 of our major airports from Harper's Ferry /Charlestown WV, via public transportation.

We did exactly that, stayed at a kinda pricey hotel a block from the train station. There is no agent selling tickets at the station,so you need cash to purchase on the train. I think the ride to DC was 13 dollars each. From Union Station took a cab to Reagan, just seemed easier than switching trains, was about 30 bucks. There is a cheaper hotel in HF,but a long walk to train depot. Hope this is helpful, have a great hike!

Harpers Ferry. Great town, ATC headquarters, and train to DC.

If you use Amtrak there is also a once a day train to Pittsburgh and points west known as The Capital Limited.
