View Full Version : long/slim water bladder?

For the next desert trip I'll have to carry lots of water, but only for a few days. My new (65lt) pack will be pretty full with all the other stuff, so simply carrying 6 bottles (1.5lt each) and have them full or empty as situation demands will not work.
So I will carry 2 bottles which will fit inside the pack and will be OK for most part of the trip, plus have an other possibility to carry an additionally 6lt at times.
I'm dreaming of two long and slim bladder-type containers to be fixed at the compression straps on both sides of the pack, and which could rolled or folded down to small size when not in use.
Normal Platybus bladders won't work in this case (to short and wide) and would be overkill (don't need valves and hoses).
Anybody has an idea?

Hydrapak seeker bladders. They come in 1, 2 and 3 L sizes. http://hydrapak.com/seeker-2l

Thanks, this looks pretty much the way I'd like it.
Next step will be to find a local vendor.

I use the platypus 2L soft bottles (https://www.rei.com/product/767111/platypus-hoser-30l-reservoir-3-liters). I like them. I also use them as pillows by blowing them up with air. But, they are not narrow.
If you want long and skinny, I'd recommend the platypus hoser (https://www.rei.com/product/767111/platypus-hoser-30l-reservoir-3-liters)bladders, and then swap out the lid for one that doesn't have a hose attachment.

Just found this, like noted by burger above, but 3L (https://www.rei.com/product/108064/hydrapak-seeker-3l-reservoir) and less money than the Platypus bladders.

Condoms and ziplocks work also and are multipurpose.
Unlubricated

since i freezer bag cook, I usually bring a couple extra ziplocks in case one gets a hole. Ive used them to carry extra water for short term dry stretches without issue. A gallon especially can carry several liters, for 0.5 oz. I shove it in my big mesh pocket.

Dromlite from MSR.
The Platypus 2 and 3 liter Hoser can be purchased without the hose and closed with a cap from Platypus. I carry the cap with my Hoser in case the hose or valve fails.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the good advice.

Condomes wouldn't stand the stress and might be inappropriate in a Muslim country (while I'd guess in the US it would be OK?)
Honestly, in secret I was hoping there was a Ziploc in this long and slim shape, but obviousely there isn't.

So far the Hydrapak Seeker 3l comes closest to my need. Next problem is that the general supplier for Europe seems to be in France or French part of Swizerland.
Will see how I can work this out.
