Ha! I'll be doing it over the holidays at the end of the month.
I just learned about the camping regulations (http://lonestartrail.org/hikeguide.html) during hunting season which is a littler annoying, but I'd rather not be shot.
<big style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: 'Lucida Sans', sans-serif;">Camping Restrictions for Hunting Season<small> (September 26 to January 8)</small></big>
Camping is restricted to Developed Campgrounds (Stubblefield, Double Lake, Huntsville State Park), Designated Hunter Camps, and Designated Primitive Camps (aka "Hiker Camps") from September 26 through January 8 of each year. At all other times, camping is permitted in the National Forest everywhere except near the parking lots and within the boundaries of Big Creek Scenic Area.
Another reason to go elsewhere. Sorry to be so negative. I've never gotten accustomed to the Gulf Coast.
