Contact PennyPincher. He/she is planning an upcoming Lone Star Trail thru-hike. He's from DFW. Might get him to offer up some tasty dehydrated morsels for sampling. Seems like chill peeps.

Might get better responses under "Other Trails" area instead of AT threads?

The last time I looked at hiking the LST, there was a river crossing without a bridge and east Texas was underwater at the time. Talk to the locals. Be dry. Be safe.

Big Bend National Park is about 12 hours west of Houston. The first half of December is a good time to be in BiBe.

Thanks for the help advice. I was also considering looking at the mountains to sea.

Mountains to Sea in North Carolina? Interesting. Wherever you go, have a good time.

Thanks for all the good advice. I have a new plan. I called the laughing heart hostile in hot springs and the hiking store in neels gap. I also tried the forest service and the noc... No answer . Lots of sobos are backed up from hot springs for quite a way north. They need some shuttle help and a little magic Figured I could lend a hand for a week or so. Jake

Well done! Good for you.
If I'm not mistaken, The Roan Highlands may be open if you have time to hike or need a shelter to crash in.
