For the year in review, I have nothing that I can think of right now that came out in 2016 that is way better then what is already available, perhaps incrementally better. NeoAir gets less crinkly, may be on the list, but not a game changer.

Exped Synmat Hyperlight Duo. So much easier than strapping two mis-matched pads together.

Gonna sound like a head-scratcher, but the ThermaRest ZLite pad takes the cakw for me. I use it on top of my BA SLX and it is the difference b/w two hours of restless sleep and six or seven hours of restful sleep amd it also eliminates the hip pain I get sleeping on my side. I don't think I could do a trip without it. After that, probably the S2S Aeros UL pillow which also is a gamechanger for a side sleeper like me. And bringing up the rear is a threeway tie for third b/w S2S Ti long-handled spoon, Darn Tough socks, or the Jetboil TiSol pot.

-MLD Duomid (.74oz cuben fiber pyramid style tarp, super easy to set up, sheds wind like a champ! also doesn't hold on to the couple extra lbs of water like silnylon)
-Altra Lone Peak 3.0 Neoshell (waterproof-ish trail runners, super comfy and they actually breathe!)
-Montbell Plasma 1000 Parka (8.4oz hooded down jacket, super warm and weighs nothing!)

Notable Mentions:
Gossamer Gear Kumo (awesome frameless, superlight 36L pack)
Canon G1-X Mark II Camera (point & shoot camera that takes DSLR quality photos, and is small enough to carry in a pocket!)

Everyone keeps talking about the gossamer gear kumo. I'm torn between that or the gorilla. Not really a fan of top lids, but gossamer gear has my attention

My old Wrangler poly-cotton shirt

]Plaid so it does not look like I’m on safari and is acceptable town wear. Sun and bug protection, dries quickly. It really is my favorite hiking shirt ever.

My P-51 can opener

]I can scrape ice out of ski bindings, tighten up a pole, pop open a beer bottle in a pinch, open up a package, clean crud from fingernails and open up a can of delicious Hatch Green Chile I pack in for trips.

Zpacks Zero small (OMFG!) found one at good price on EBAY just how I would have had it custom made.
Patagonia 9 Trails Shorts. 300 very hot weather miles on mine with ZERO CHAFE OR SWAMP ASS. Zippered pockets.
Altra shoes -- put 300 miles on my Lone Peak 2.5s and have a set of 3.0s but I'm afraid to take them out.

(four: zpacks pocket tarp, five: Patagucchi Houdini -- sorry).

Can I just list my whole SUL summer kit? I'm there. 4.5 lbs baby.

Both packs are really awesome packs! If you can fit everything into the Kumo, then go for it! If not, the Gorilla is the next best thing! I carry the Kumo without the hip belt and barely notice I even have a pack on!

I have a Gorilla and love it. Have about 700 miles on it. It is very comfortable, but if I could do it again, I'd get the Kumo. The Gorilla has gotten too big as my kit has gotten lighter. I came across a ZPACKS zero at a very good price, otherwise I'd probably be buying a Kumo, or even the smaller daypack -- still may.

My three favorite pieces of gear right now are:

Victorinox Signature swiss army knife. Same as the littlest ones you know but instead of a toothpick there is a pen.
Scissors, file, knife, pen, tweezers all at 22 grams. TSA confiscations
Not the best video but... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSlKWjuhkIY

Melanzana Microgrid Hoody: Love how I can cinch down the hood/cowl to make a balaclava type closure. Not form fitting.... very comfortable. 356 grams for size XXL only $69.
http://melanzana.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/22/products_id/34

True Lime: Dehydrated Lime Powder. Adds a nice flavor to water... drink it daily. Love this stuff...
There are different containers.... some sized like small sugar packets (.08grams each of lime/10 of these packets weight 13 grams on my scale. I plan to buy a large container and put some in a ziplock and pour it into my water bottle... I could also make concentrated lime juice as a seasoning....
