Me neither. That's why I asked. I have heard that they will drop off their guests at the trailhead, however, and well fed to boot.

If you've got the time I'd just do an out and back -- its about 16 miles each way -- and not worry about the hassle of a shuttle.

Ron in Franklin
is very good to help with shuttles and at low fairs.828-524-4403 Sorry for the confusion.

The number I gave was for Ron of Hiawassee Inn.

Too many shuttlers named Ron :)

But max patch has the right idea. Out and back to your own car. Best of all, the way back is mostly downhill!

does anyone know anything about leaving a car at Deep Gap, NC? any experience with that parking area for a two night drop off?

I've parked in Deep Gap for years, never had a problem. The shuttle from Dicks Creek Gap to Deep Gap is about 80 miles round-trip.

Sorry for the late reply. Just returned from there. Access road to Deep Gap is rugged and beginning to wash; wouldn't attempt without 4X. We parked at Dick's Creek, took a shuttle to Deep Gap and hiked the section SoBo. Highly recommend Fred and Joyce Woodward for shuttle. Wonderful people.

If you mean Deep Gap just north of Muskrat Creek Shelter, the access road was closed last summer to vehicular traffic. I don't know the status currently , but I know that Jeff and Nancy of Hike Inn were not shuttling to that location last summer.

I don't know the current status, but I'd verify first.

OTOH, if you mean close to Deep Gap Shelter in GA. pay no attention to my comment.

I'm referring to the section between Dick's Creek (GA) and Deep Gap (NC). Deep Gap access (old GA Hwy 64) was "redone" last summer and is beginning to wash out already. I'm a section hiker and we had to abandon that section due to Hurricane Rita in October 05. Road was open on Saturday 3/18/06 but they were getting rain on Mon 3/20/06.

I'm talking Deep Gap in NC, one of the "easy" hikes down to Standing Indian N.F. Campground, or hikes up to the AT from the campground. It had (has?) a dirt gravel national forest service road to the gap where people sometime park.

Perhaps the road was repaired after I stayed at Jeff n Nancy's Hike Inn.

I think we're talking the same Deep Gap. But your reference to Ga. 64 surprised me, as I don't recall dipping into GA the time I was shuttled there in 2004. Of course, I was being shuttled from Hike Inn, rather then from Dick's Creek.
