Planning a section hike mid March. Amicalola to Woody gap. I was planning on parking at Woody gap, will I have any issues finding a parking spot? Is there a fee? I was planning on contacting Ron Brown for shuttle from woody to amicalola. Thanks for the info and I welcome any additional advice. First time hiking the AT. I've done a few trips on the Ozark Trail.

It can get busy at Woody but you should be ok if you get there early in day. No fee. Ron is a great resource. Hope you like company.

Great. I won't arrive until afternoon I imagine but I'm thinking of starting on a Thursday so maybe a little less crowd...

Parking lot at Woody gap is large. You can see for yourself using google maps streetview. Even has a restroom.

You will have crowds of hikers all thru March no matter what day of the week it is.

This is true but there will probably be parking available.

The parking lot at Woody is big and on both sides of road. It has been full in fall with day hikers on the weekend but should be no issue in spring.

Have you considered another location for your March hike that doesn't add to the madness that is Georgia in March?
Every little bit helps.

No bear box at Blood Mountain ... you are supposed to have a bear vault if you intend to stay on Blood Mountain.
Don't remember about Woody Gap....

Thinking of section hiking Georgia starting at Amicalola April 22. How is the hiker traffic then?

Just in case that wasn't emphatic enough, you MUST HAVE an approved bearsafe container such as a Bearvault at that time to stay at Blood Mountain. You can hike through there without a BV but not stay there.

No bear boxes at Woody yet, but bearsafe containers are not required. Plenty of trees for a good hang there.
