Audiobooks on the trail

So i finally got around to listening to AWOL's book and rally liked it. In the book he briefly mentions another book about a dude that lived alone in the woods for 50 years or something. I made a mental note to investigate this once I got off trail but now I can't find anything about it. I thought he said it was called The Last Man but there are a million books with that title.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Also happy to hear any other audio book recommendations :)

I'm not sure which book that might be. But it sounds interesting! I could definitely recommend some other books though (not sure all are audiobooks but I just put the ebooks into the Natural Reader app):
Scenes of Wonder and Curiosity in California (1862) by James M Hutchings (This guy helped spark interest in starting what became the NPS long before John Muir was even in the USA)
Grandma Gatewood's Walk by Ben Montgomery
A Walk In The Woods by Bill Bryson

"The Last American Man" is a great read, highly recommended. Eustace Conway still makes the news occasionally. Quite a character.

I would be curious to know if the book is as dramatized as the tv show? On tv they showed him riding a horse into town, but when the cameras aren't rolling he drives a pickup truck like so many of his neighbors. Aside from living in more simplistic shelters what are the unique and interesting differences between Eustice and other outdoorsmen or even modern homesteaders?

In my opinion, the story of him riding a horse cross country sets him apart from most. I haven't seen a TV show about him. I saw his name in the news a couple of years ago about building permits on his complex.

Elizabeth Gilbert is a good author and I though it was fun to get her gut reaction to her subject.

Thanks Garlic. The tv show was called Mountain Men. I tried to watch a couple episodes out of curiosity to see how he would be portrayed and what he and the others would be up to that would be worthy of tv. On a typical day I would rather watch two mules fight over a turnip than subject myself to tv.
