Still looking for a shelter (small budgets suck). Pretty recently I posted a thread in here about a tarp system vs a tent (it's like three threads down) and somehow in my search I completely forgot about Simply Light Designs. I have experience with them in the past (I got my hammock tarp from them, but the only tieouts are on the corners, meaning I can't use it to go to ground), so I don't doubt the quality of this tarp. However, I'm not sure how goo of a shelter it would be. It's very light (advertised as 8.5oz), which is great, but also very minimalist. Does anyone have experience with this tarp or a tarp like this?

If you have a small budget would it not be far easier to sew some additional tie outs to the tarp you already have?

Never seen anything in my life, and I don't really trust myself to try on my only tarp.

The pic of the tarp in the link has time-outs that aren't just in the corners.

Yeah, I have the Simplicity Asym tarp, and the only tieouts on there are corners. The Trail Bird has them on the side to pitch the sides low in a storm.

What about these or something similar? Haven't used them before, but might work.

You are approaching poncho-tarp size with that thing. Why not get a cheap poncho and try it? :)

Another thought occurred to me. I've done this before. Take a pebble or a few dimes (etc) and wrap the tarp around it, then tie a guyline around it. This guy uses 3/4" styrofoam balls from the craft store.

Put a guyline wherever you want it.
