I am planning a SOBO MA section hike the 2nd week of July. Just wondering where the primary hoard of hikers are at that time. Google searches didn't come up with much. Thanks in advance!

Everywhere. Quite a few will likely be in MA in the middle of July. It's more of a steady stream then a bubble.

Scattered to the winds, really. Three quarters of them have dropped out, the rest are spread out over the last 1/3 of the trail, from New York to Maine. I've seen lots of NOBO thrus in Vermont in early August, and in NY/CT/MA mid-June.

Which is to say, the bubble isn't that much of a thing, that late in the season. You might see five, maybe ten thru hikers in a day. Or none. They're often outnumbered by non thru hikers at any given shelter or campsite.

This comes from Map Man's study on hiker rates by section, my copy was last updated in 2011...don't think there have been any changes since then.

I hit Mass first week of July. There was a pretty big number of NOBOS and flip flippers around at that point. I saw 15+ thrus a day in Mass in July.
