Never thought I'd actually weigh things but what the hell...since jumping into a frameless pack I better keep closer tabs even though I'm already a minimalists....

Go to the sporting goods section of Walmart and get a digital fish scale for about $15. Good to 50 lb with 1 oz resolution. For light weight items, a digital food or postal scale for about the amount of money. You can probably find some deals on eaby too, but Walmart is convenient.

You are going to need a office scale or kitchen scale that weighs to at least to 1/10 of an ounce. Many also weigh in grams which is ideal. I buy mine on Amazon for about $15 max. A luggage scale is for weighing your full pack and is nice to have but doesn't tell where you are over weight.

My wife's kitchen scale plus this: http://www.leevalley.com/en/garden/page.aspx?cat=2,40733,40734&p=67613 . I have it hung up in a doorway and only occasionally walk into it.

I've also got this unit for weighing individual items. Yeah, going UL sucks, right?

Any electronic kitchen scale which weighs grams and ounces will do the trick. They can be had for $15 to $30.

This is the one I use : scale (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Glass-Digital-Kitchen-Scale/49883592)

I got it on sale for I think $14 about 3 years ago and is still working great.

I have one that measures in grams, ounces and pounds. No surprise there. The thing that I find very useful is the upper limit of 11 pounds. That comes in very handy for backpacking and kitchen stuff.

Outstanding accuracy for hiking purposes. Can set the tare. Only drawback is that it breaks around 10 pounds of so.

Since you normally solo, this may not of much benefit. I use a postage scale that accurately measures in grams, Sharper Image. I have an excel sheet with all the items listed (I can outfit 5-6 people). For trips ranging from solo to 6 persons, I can allocate gear to each individual based on their capabilities, my wife <20#'s for example or even everything out.

I then use a luggage scale to weight full packs to make sure my spread sheet work was fairly accurate.

I know, kinda anal, but other than backpacking my life is relatively simple.

Salter stainless digitial kitchen scale 7 lb capacity weighs in grams and ozs. Up to 1/8 oz accuracy but grams function goes to nearest gram. I bought mine $15 8 yrs ago. Made in the UK. been on many a gear buying and gear research trips. For morev accurate stuuf Essence postage sacle for $20 good to .10 gram. can also use a USPO during less busy hours if asking considerately. No dirty or large stuff.

I have a DigiWeigh 1000 (http://www.scalesgalore.com/product/?product_id=7273) for small items. Agreed, a little more precision (and cost) than is necessary for weighing gear, but I do find the 0.1g resolution handy when stove testing to accurately weigh fuel in order to measure consumption, and also for when mixing 2-part glues (such as epoxy) in small amounts. Lots of other uses as well.

For weighing a full pack or larger items, I use this hanging scale (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003SWZWNC/ref=pe_385040_215884960_pd_te_s_s_ti/159-6360398-8634150) which is cheap and is pretty accurate when measured against the DigiWeigh above at weights up to 1000g. (Or one could argue they're consistent in their inaccuracy. :-?)
