I'm thinking of some camping when it is too warm for my sleeping bag but still cool.

Ive used one of the down throws for Georgia in October.

I was was wondering if anyone would have an idea of how cold o could go with two of them.

I have an insulated pad. I sleep a little warm.

With good base layers then you might get down to 30*F but I wouldn't bank on it. I use one with a 40*F bag and still need good sleeping clothes at around 30*F. The throws are very thin, stitched through and have low fill power duck down so I look at them as summer only.

"it depends"

I think it depends on how you configure it. I have a few of them and turned one into a quilt. I took 10" off the 60" side and sewed it on the bottom after making a 6 square foot box. I also seam ripped it. My quilt is 50" x 80" sewn like a normal top quilt. Back in November (In Georgia) I had it out in the mid-40's with a self inflating therm-a-rest under me and it performed surprisingly well. I was tent camping but near my truck to I wasn't worried.

I would not think that a standard DD Costco Down throw in the normal configuration would fare so well.

Also, depending on what part of Georgia you will be in may dictate your success. I camp in the NE part of GA a lot and it can get very cold up there in October. I also hunt and primitive camp in South Georgia in October, November and January and I have seen temps anywhere from overnight lows in the 70's to teens and everything in between.

To a search for DIY Costco Throw - Top Quilt and you will see dozens of modifications on these quilts. IMO, they are the best value in down throws on the market. They are certainly not the best option but for $20, they are well worth every penny.

Thanks. I'm just playing with them now. At some point I want to do a real quilt.

But just looking for a bridge at the moment.

Really appreciate the feedback. Mid-40s is by far as low as I would go.

Depending on what else you have, you could just use a down jacket + 1 of those throws instead of two of them. That might be ok in mid 40s. Add a beanie and a couple other things, and you're still lighter than taking 2 of the fairly inefficient throws (lots of shell with 2 of them, not that much down)

It depends upon the temp and humidity. If the temp is low then you are going to be colder. If the temp is higher the you will be considerably less cold.

I've tried using two. They simply are way too slippery to stay on top of each other.

What are the dimensions of those throws? Can you cover your whole body with one? :)

I bought several of these Down throws that are 60" x 70" Groupon had them on sale for $19 each. I have joined the end with a piece of shock cord. I gathered up the one end like hammockers do when they make a gathered end hammock.

I've also added a few plastic snaps to connect the two edges together to make a footbox.

This keeps the blankets together and doesn't slip off. The plastic snaps have hardly and weight to them.

If you're worried how it looks with the gathered end of the blanket sticking out you can always turn it inside out.

I doubled up one throw so it was like 2 layers. And another layer under it. I slept on top of them in 35 degree weather and one blanket on top. I was very warm.
I believe these Down throws absorb your body heat and keep you very warm.

This is my complete setup (2 on the bottom underquilt) and one on top(top quilt)

My wife sewed a drawstring at one end and then a 2 ft zipper up the side. This works very nice in our house which we keep at 63 in the winter. I have one pulled up to my waist most of the time I am working at the computer. I think it may work into the 50's, but I have not tested outside yet. As someone said they are very slick so I think you would need to keep 2 tied together or they will be sliding off of you.

Also they each weigh almost a pound each, so I would think 2 would be as heavy as your sleeping bag.

I'm just hoping they will work in warmer weather than my bag. :).

One worked pretty well to 50 degrees or cooler.

I was thinking that two would go to 40 or so. It warmed up too quick for me to field test that

My bag is a little too warm at that temperature.

I'm going to play with it. Sew two together for a quilt to share with my wife while hiking and do another two for a second layer. Maybe some snaps.

Snaps are a great idea, then you could have individual blankets or put together for one big one.
