Ever ate food combinations on that trail that you wouldn't even consider in you regular life, only to figure out that it really is tasty even when not in "starvation mode"?

For me, it's pepperoni slices with cashews. They were the first food I laid my hands on one day and I nomed down all I had in one sitting... sooo good! :o Now I actually like taking them for lunch at work.

Water on cereal

No, no, no. No water on my Cheerios, the Lone Ranger didn't do it, and neither can I.

Mustard and apple, believe it or not. One of the first recipes in the Silver Palate Cookbook is for shrimp with a mustard-apple glaze.

PB&J with siracha.

Grape jam and Cheese Wiz.

Pancakes with syrup, butter and salsa.

I have a friend who love PB and mayo...that's gross. Lol

Now, rehydrated hummus and pepperoni on a tortilla , that's a different matter.

Chicken Ramen mixed with instant loaded baked potatoe, wrapped in a tortilla. Sounds discusting, but I'll eat almost anything.

I used to be hooked on tortillas filled with peanut butter and trail mix while hiking. Probably goes without saying, but this is one I discovered one day when my food bag was low.

Not on the trail but...
Sweet potato chips and blue cheese. OK Cafe in Atlanta used to feature it.
Tater Tots and Hot Wing Sauce. Started eating this at a wing joint playing trivia and order it now anywhere they have tots.

Instant mashed potatoes, tuna in safflower oil, three packets of mayo, and foraged ramps, American ginger, and Brook Lettuce.

Trail grown sprouts, hummus, Rosy Goat Cheese, and tuna on a tortilla wrap.

Tahini smeared Ramen eaten cold.

Some of these "recipes" need to come with warning labels.

My thru hiker friend Biscuits swore by tuna and fruity marshmallows in a tortilla with peanut butter and hot sauce.

Peanut butter and bacon sandwiches! Good hiking substitute is PB and bacon bits on a tortilla wrap.

Pancakes made with mayonnaise. Mayo is basically egg and oil, both of which you would add to dry pancake mix to make it richer and tastier. A couple of packets of mayo from a fast food place at your last resupply point make for some tasty trail pancakes your first day back on the trail.

Add some honey and you have Golden Loaf. The King would be proud.

Iced honey bun and spam sandwich. 1200-1400 calories per sandwich depending on the honey buns you choose.

Mini Reese cups with Jalapenos. Sounds crazy but almost every big camping outing we go on, someone brings this. Spice with the sweet chocolate and peanut butter... MMMMMM!!

Cashew pepperoni tuna mixed in with a Knorrs rice side, add some nice crispy Fritos to finish. All at once, sure. After two months on the trail, the rules go out the window. What's for sale, what's left in the food bag, toss it in the pot.

On the Grand Enchantment Tr at Turkey Creek met an extended family of Latinos(Mexicans) who humbly invited me to an AYCE sit down of Haberno and Chili peppers and Mango glazed campfire grilled chicken and sautéed grasshoppers with fresh squeezed lime and sautéed garlic and grasshoppers. They called the hoppers chapuline. Since I was out of food enjoyed it heartily among my friendly and gracious hosts.
