Disclaimer
I have no connection with this or any of the books or authors I post links to, nor do I have a financial interest in Amazon.com. I simply find free books that I think/hope might have some connection to backpacking or hiking and post the links. I have no control over what books are available. I do not have time to read/review every book I post. Not everyone will enjoy every book. Most books are free for a limited time, then return to their previous price.

I just finished this. It's got an interesting perspective, with a hike specific to the challenges of the PCT. The author (trail name "Stopwatch") and her partner ("Optimist") did the 2600 mile PCT in 109 days: no zero days, no nights spent in town, and never venturing more than 1 mile off the trail for resupply. They were known as "Team Sherpa" for carrying every bit of food they needed for 300 mile stretches of trail.

A fair amount of the book deals with the emotional challenges of trail life and its aftermath. She details 5 specific instances ("mental breakdowns") when she was ready to pack it in and abandon the effort, before regaining some balance and continuing the hike. If I were hiking 30+ mile days with a 40+ lb. pack, I can certainly see how that would push me to my limits.

One note about the editing: as a self-published book, this is much cleaner than most. There are remarkably few proofing errors. The biggest goof I recalled was "it" where "is" was meant.

Overall, a worthwhile read, especially at the bargain price of FREE. Thanks, perrymk.
