I am thinking about getting a new bag.

Anyone who has a favorite sleeping bag company, please post a link?

In addition, there was a custom maker that I was looking at last fall. I lost the link and I am looking for it again. I believe I picked the link up here, but I can not find it in the archive. This was a company out west. I remember I could chooses colors and fabrics and make a system for multiple temperatures. The company had one distinct thing that other will remember, and I know it will make be sound like a perv, but there was a naked or semi-naked person in the catalogue. If you have this link please post it or PM it to me.

Thanks

Naked, eh? You're probably thinking of Stephenson's Warmlite (http://www.warmlite.com) models. Some top companies include Western Mountaineering, Feathered Friends, and Marmot. Use the WhiteBlaze search function to find more information than you'll ever want. You could also provide specific temperature range you're looking to buy for, and you'll get plenty of suggestions.

I have all three of Kelty's Light Year (http://www.kelty.com/Kelty/index.cfm?fuseaction=SleepingBags.ShowProduct&type=sleepingBag&ID=90) Sleeping bags. I am a big guy and they are roomy, yet light. And the price is right if you are on a budget!

A sleeping bag is the only piece of gear i have that i paid more than $150 for. I bought a $360 Feathered Friends (Hummingbird) about 5 thru-hikes ago and still use it whenever it's not too cold. (it's losing it's loft now that i've slept in it about 1,000 times and washed it about 15) Anyway, it's the one piece of gear that i'm happy with my pick. good luck with yours.

The best thing to do is go try them on. They should fit you! Extra room means extra warmth you have to put out for the bags inefficiency. A tight bag makes breathing difficult especially when you need to wear extra clothes. A bag should fit like a glove, or your long underwear, or whatever.

Thank you Warmlight it is.

And I don't fit the normal sleeping bags. I am LARGE. 6+ feet tall and 250 lbs. I bought an off the rack bag large bag last fall and I had to roll my shoulders forward to zip it up all the way.

Edited to add one more thing
I am looking for a system. Kind of like the military bags (layered) one set of bags that will be used in temps from 20-70.

Just looked at the price, I am not getting a Warmlight. I don't mind paying for quality, or good ideas, but no way I am paying that much for one system.

I will admit that I'm homer for Feathered Friends products, but if you are looking for the most options in sizes, shapes, fabric type, fabric weight, fabric color and layering systems, then they are hard to beat. The quality is excellent....and you will pay for it...but you'll be rewarded for your investment.

If you read posts, and look at what other hikers are using, the Western Mounteering probably makes some of the best bags around. But, they are costly. What's your budget.

Feathered Friends is also a quality bag and priced accordingly.

For us with limited funds, there are several bags that will work just fine. It's all a trade off of cost vs weight.
