I currently own both packs and I am having a hard time deciding which one to take on my thru hike of the Appalachian trail. The are both equality comfortable. The ohm is a little bit smaller and isn't cuben fiber. Any input or opinions are welcomed.

How about asking yourself why you have these two backpacks at very near the same volume in the first place? This is best answered by you not others. After this is determined share this info with us. We'll take it together from there.

Honestly, I would pack one, take it for a hike and unpack it. I would then do the same with the other. Decide which one was easier, more effecient, or had extra's that you can't live without. For example, I love the water bottle cords on the straps but only use the right side. I love the right pocket for carrying a Gatorade Bottle but use the left side for my Cookset and Water Filtration. I took everything out of the interior except for one pouch that I use for holding a ziplock bag of first aid items. I'm sure nothing is wrong with the HMG or you wouldn't have purchased it as well. I just don't know if it has "perks" that you can't live without. Bottom line can also be weight of pack and durability for a thru hike. I decided on the Ohm for durability, myself.

Take each on a multi-night trip. Decide which one works better for you.
Or, just take the Ohm. =)

Flip a coin. Unless you had the hydration stuff removed from the HMG, it will leak in rain so you will still need to put your gear in a trash compactor bag.

What do you mean? Are you saying that if you're using a,camelbak, it will leak if it rains? You're really talking about condensation, right?

All packs leak in the rain. Its a given. If you want it to stay dry, or need it to stay dry, put it in a pack and find out exactly how water resistant your pack is.

The pack will take a beating. Cuben doesn't stand up well to abrasion.

The HMG packs use a sturdier cuben fiber than other brands, which is why they're significantly heavier. One of the selling points to cuben fiber is that it's semi-waterproof, but as I mentioned in the previous comment that characteristic is kind of invalidated by the hydration port.
I'm using my 2400 on my AT Section Hike and my 3400 on my PCT Thru Hike. I also own a ULA Circuit.
