I'm looking at getting a vest as an extra layer for my PCT thru hike this year, since I am only carrying a 35 degree bag. Which is warmer and more compressible, the WM Flash vest (down, 3.5 oz, $125) or the Patagonia micro puff (syn, 6 oz, $85)? Or does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks, Spoon

Do you have your heart set on a vest?

If not, I'm trying to unload a new, never used, Mont-bell Down Inner Jacket, men’s M, blue, 7.4oz, w/stuff sack, paid $140, will sell for $100 includes shipping.

That would be great except I need an XL.

I don't have a down vest. I do have an EMS microfleece vest. It's the first vest that actually helps keep me warm. You might want to check it out.

I have a micro puff pullover and my wife has a wm flash vest. They seem to loft up approx the same. So I would think they are approx the same warmth... except that the micro puff has a full collar and the flash vest is a V-neck. So I expect that micro puff will be warmer unless you are wearing a warm scarf. You might see if you have a patagonia outlet nearby. I saw micro puff vests in the santa cruz store the last time I was there for something like 50% of list.

Lots of options. I like the thermawrap vest because it's less warm than the micro puff. It's a perfect weight for most of my 3 season trips which are mostly above 30F, and it's a good weight when I am highly active in the winter. I have a short list of some others http://www.verber.com/mark/outdoors/gear/clothing.html#InsulationTorso
