so. It has been raining so my wife decided to set up my Father's Day present for a test drive while I was at a meeting.

This is the ul3 which we are using as a replacement for our half dome 2.

It is a little under three pounds. Larger than the half dome and than the ul2.

(Obviously buy only on sale).

As reported everything is lightweight (e.g. Thin) but with a foot print it seems stable enough.

Only one entrance but the difference in size makes a real difference in the in and out.

The extra size size also means no issues from touching the sides and enough rom to sit up.

The model is my 5' 8" wife. Typical thermarest foam pad.

Pretty as well and early daylight is gentle.

Early verdict is positive.

Staked down in the pictures but free standing in a pinch.

The mesh is very thin and tightly woven. Not as breathable as a looser mesh, seems likely to block noseeums better.

The rainfly folds back easily with clips.

I need to make a polycro footbrint for it next.

The pictures aren't the usual. Those are available from other reviews.

But they show the tent from the inside.

I had really not had this tent on my radar. I was looking at the Copper Spur.

But I was very pleased with it.

Also in the pictures is one of the 850 loft one pound quilts reviewed by others. Just treated them both with NikWax.

Very pleaded with those as well. Good replacements for the quilts we had. Straps work well.

Lofts well. Very lightweight fabric.

Interesting how much more care I find lighter gear needs.

Wife is still deciding how she feels about the foam pad. It is lighter than the inflatable thermarest but doesn't cushion as well. Not quite for me, but she is looking it over. Trying to decide. Works for some (in surveys a lot of people use them, and some love them). (Also high on the "I replaced this item" lists).

NikWax water resistance is amazing.

Much better than expected.

Now. Two more stuff sacks.

Pricing drops to around three hundred dollars from time to time.

I can recommend it at that price point.

Thanks. That looks roomy for two, but no way would I want to try and fit 3 in that tent.

Not for more than 4-5 minutes at least. ;)

Money doesn't grow on trees, this year I picked up the Walmart Ozark Trail backback 9' tent, no rain fly and doesn't really hold up in real rain but a good option at only $25!

We have one of those for car camping.

But for backpacking it just isn't light enough.

Oops. Not that one. Our car camping tent is larger.

curious how well it lasts.

Enjoying the tent. Now for a section hike in October.

Finished up a new polycro rain fly using sheetbend knots and shock cord.

Now to do a new foot print that fits the new tent.
