I'm probably getting annoying at this point with all my questions. Sorry.
I was looking all over and couldn't find when the AWOL guide's for the next year are available for order/purchase. Could someone give me a rough estimate? I have a family member who would like to buy it for me.

Rain Man had the best answer for you. But Soumodeler's answer was spot on as well. You should email David "AWOL" Miller and he will Be able to tell you what you are wanting to know.
Well, you have to read a few posts. The 2017 AWOL guide, you can purchase NOW. you can us it for planning and just for fun. You can even use it next year. However the 2018 guide, can't be purchased yet. They publish the "current" years guide, around January. Trick is, right now there are people out on sections of the trail and in towns, reporting back the changes between what is in the 2017 guide and what WILL be more accurate for the 2018 guide. So if you wish the MOST up to date guide for a 2018 hike, get it in January.

The 2018 guide book is generally available for pre-order in the late fall. The books and PDF links ship/become active in early January. My PDF file for my phone was available on January 1st. My paper guide arrived two weeks later.
