Started reading his journal, thanks for the link. Very interesting read.
Same here, started reading journal, will continue...very interesting the animals he saw and what he was eating.
Anyone can help the Smithsonian transcribe books like this. I helped on the Earl Shaffer Diary project transcribing several pages including the page where he climbs Katahdin. I thought it was pretty cool to be a part of that. By the way Earl's handwriting is atrocious!

By the way Earl's handwriting is atrocious!Years ago I also was part of a group that did this - The Gutenberg Project. I read "Walking with Spring" last year. Is the journal the same, or more detail oriented?
