So it's too late to send clothes off for professional treatment and I'm looking at something like a sawyer brand permethrin clothing treatment which states it lasts up to 6 washes. I'd like to get some tick protection especially getting through the NE states. Am I wrong in assuming that as wet as the trail gets that the effectiveness will be much shorter lived than the 6 "town" washings? With all of the rain that is typically encountered, I would think 2 or 3 town stops and I'd have to re treat the clothing? Thoughts appreciated, expertise and experience appreciated more:D.

Per Sawyer, water isn't as big an issue as sunlight and exposure. Also, it's the agitation of the washer that also breaks it down. I recall reading that they really believe permethrin last much longer than advertised but 6 washings or about 42 days is a conservative estimate.

Mega,
Check out https://whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php/120672-Do-I-need-to-use-Permethrin?p=2098301&highlight=#post2098301 . US military claims the method is good for 1 year. For me, it definitely worked for at least 2 months while thru hiking.
