I own an Equinox silponcho now. While it's fine as rainwear, it's a bit unimpressive as shelter [lack of ridgeline tie-outs in particular]. My hunch is that The GoLite is a very good model, though I've never used it. It reviewed well on BPL, and Andy Skurka used it for most of his CTC thru-hike.

It's longer than it's flat-tarp competitiors from Integral Designs and Equinox. It's also cheaper than those two and the one from DLG. It also has ridgeline tie-outs that the Equinox lacks. Probably more durable than all three models because it uses a slightly heavier 1.7oz/yd2 silnylon fabric that GoLite uses in its other shelters.

I think the best competitor for the GoLite poncho-tarp would be one of the models from Mountain Laurel Designs. Different price range and feature set for each, but they both have compelling features and are the two I think most worthy of consideration.
