Any advice on a 30 day section hike kicking off mid August?

Start at Springer and hike north for 30 days. You should end up somewhere between Hot Springs and Damascus.

Yes. But it's cooler than in the lowlands and it's still a pleasant hike.

Or go hike in New England, late summer there is beautiful.

Hard to beat New England in that time frame. Start in Mass and head north

For new england:
Could do vermont through to the north side of the whites (more moderate terrain warmup into harder finish. less storms in the whites as you get later in your trip)
Or just do maine and part of nh if you like difficult terrain and good scenery, or start katahdin and head south.
